18-year-old killed in Monday evening shooting in Akron

The incident happened in the 1600 block of Brittain Road.

The Akron Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place Monday evening in the 1600 block of Brittain Road. 

According to officials, officers responded to the scene around 5:45 p.m. after numerous calls were made about a shooting. Upon arrival, police officers located an unresponsive male with gunshot wounds. 

The man, now identified as 18-year-old Kyree J. Young, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives with the homicide unit have opened an investigation and officials tell 3News that the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and identified Young's cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. 

Police believe the incident occurred after an altercation broke out and that the victim was shot by an unidentified suspect who fled the scene.
