AKRON, Ohio — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for shooting a 2-year-old boy in Akron on Friday.
Police say officers were called to Akron Children’s Hospital around 3:30 p.m. after the toddler was brought in by his mother with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The boy was treated for his injuries and is currently listed in stable condition, police said Monday morning.
“Officers determined that the shooting, believed to be unintentional, occurred earlier at a residence in the 500 block of Koerber Avenue,” police said in a press release Monday morning. “Officers arrived there and located evidence of a crime inside the home. Also in the home were four other children, who ranged in age from 6 months to 13 years old, were all unharmed. The children, who were home at the time of the incident, were later turned over to Summit County Children’s Services.”
After obtaining a search warrant, detectives later recovered a handgun.
“The exact circumstances are unknown, and the incident remains under investigation,” police added.
