Akron teen earns pilot's license at age 17

For Victoria Lorenzon, the sky is definitely the limit

AKRON, Ohio — A driver's license is a rite of passage for many teens -- but for an Akron teen, that step up went sky high.

"I knew I was going to get my license, you know at some point in my lifetime. It was just kind of a fact I was going to get it."

Well, Victoria Lorenzon got it. The Firestone High junior has her private pilot's license. Her Dad is her inspiration

"He's a professor at Kent, he runs the aeronautics program there and he's the one that actually linked me to the flight examiner Tim Pelcho, who was gracious enough to do my flight exam," Victoria explains.

It's a grueling process from ground training to air hours. The toughest part?

"The oral exam, I'd say is the most stressful part because you have to talk about the airplane and different questions about aviation. I think mine lasted about two and a half hours," says Victoria.

Victoria passed her exams with flying colors. To celebrate, she organized a special Holiday event, flying Santa to meet some kids at the Wadsworth Airport.

"They were cheering, they were so excited. They had the biggest smiles it was so cute," Victoria recalls.

For this Firestone Falcon, the sky is definitely the limit.

"She's the perfect example of taking an opportunity, taking a challenge and running with it," Sally Schneider of Akron School For the Arts tells us.

And who knows? Maybe someday, she'll fly her way onto the Firestone Wall of Fame.
