NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio - — Some would travel hours for views like this:
But this rustic, century old log structure stands ten minutes South of Akron.
Island owner Dave Calderwood owns the building and the island it's built on. As you approach the cabin, it's like walking backwards in time. Heading through the front door, you can really feel the warmth that lives within these walls.
"Everyone seems to be touched by the place," Calderwood tells us. "They fall in love with it. It's just a great place to spend good quality family time."
Even in the rain. The cabin is very clean with everything you'll need to be comfortable.
What you won't find? WiFi.
"We did have a kid that asked his parents to take him to WalMart for WiFi and the dad said 'GO GRAB A FISHING POLE! What are you talking about!'," Calderwood recalls with a laugh.
The fishing is great in the Portage Lakes, and this is the perfect place to tell a fish story about the big one that got away. Or not.
"I find there are certain things in life that remind you of time gone by," says Calderwood.
This island definitely fits the bill.
