Car crashes into Akron police cruiser assisting with funeral procession

The suspect was apparently driving with a suspended license.

A woman allegedly driving with a suspended license crashed into an Akron police cruiser Thursday that was escorting a funeral procession.

According to officials, the procession was driving northbound on Darrow Road when the Chevrolet Malibu slammed into the cruiser. Extensive damage prevented the officer from getting out of the vehicle on his own, and he was later taken to Akron City Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 21-year-old Malibu driver and her passenger were both taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital, also with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was cited for making a left turn into approaching traffic, driving on a suspended license, and not giving the right of way to a funeral procession.

Authorities say the suspect also had a warrant out on her from Copley, where she also allegedly drove under a suspended license.
