Man dies in Akron shooting, nearby house struck: Suspects unknown

When police arrived at the scene on Valdes Avenue, they found the victim on the ground with “apparent gunshot wounds.”

A 28-year-old man has died following a shooting in the 700 block of Valdes Avenue in Akron Wednesday night.

Authorities say it was just before 9 p.m. when officers responded the scene where residents reported hearing shots fired. When police arrived, they found the victim on the ground with “apparent gunshot wounds.”

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The man’s name has not been released. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.

“While searching the area, officers discovered that at least one nearby home was struck by gunfire,” police said Thursday morning. “None of the area residents reported any injuries.”

No arrests have been made and authorities say detectives are working to identify any suspects connected to the incident. Anybody with information is asked to contact the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
