Man turns himself in to police after shooting, killing 35-year-old woman in Akron

The incident happened Monday, July 5, around 5:30 a.m.

A man is in the custody of the Akron Police Department today after turning himself in for the shooting death of a 35-year-old Occa Onia Bernice Edison 

According to police, the shooting took place early in the morning hours of July 5, when 30-year-old Franklin Lewis shot the victim during an argument and fled the scene.

The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Minson Way. 

Police tell 3News that Lewis was identified as a suspect early on in their investigation. 

Lewis, accompanied by his attorney, surrendered to authorities on Tuesday, and the 30-year-old has been charged with murder. Police say the man also had outstanding warrants for assault and aggravated menacing related to a prior incident involving the victim.
