AKRON — A bet between two friends on Twitter led to the "unofficial" crowning of Akron's lunch champion.

It started in June when the Downtown Akron Partnership and the Akron Summit Convention and Visitor's Bureau launched their "Eating Downtown" promotion. The organizations mapped out all 50 restaurants in downtown Akron. Participants could grab a map and a restaurant punch card to begin their journey. Once they eat at eight restaurants, they can be entered in a drawing to receive prizes each month.

"Suddenly Ryan says 'what will happen if I eat at all 50 places,'" said Roger Riddle who works with the Akron Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau. "I said 'I’ll personally buy you a crown.'"

And so it began.

Ryan Pritt, president of Pritt Entertainment Group who has worked with both DAP and the bureau, launched his own journey and documented the experience on Twitter.

"That first day you ate two lunches," Riddle said to Pritt as they discussed the bet.

"I don’t make the most responsible health decisions," said Pritt.

Pritt was able to visit all 50 restaurants in downtown Akron in about a month.

The experience allowed Pritt to discover new restaurants

"It’s a great way and fun way to getting people out and about," said Riddle.

"There’s a coffee shop that opened a block away from my office," said Pritt. "Even though I already have gotten through 50, I had to go there because it’s the only one I haven’t eaten at."

So it's "50 and counting" for Pritt.
