Local couple wins $1.3 million dollars in debut of 'The Wall'

Akron residents John and Angel Whorton won $1.3 million dollars in the debut of the LeBron James-produced 'The Wall' on Monday night.

Now THAT'S how you launch a new game show produced by LeBron James!

Monday night, NBC and WKYC Channel 3 premiered the show 'The Wall,' which had Akron residents John and Angel Whorton competing to try to win as much as $12 million dollars.

They didn't win the $12 million prize, but how about $1.3 million?

"I feel so much relief now," Angel told WKYC Channel 3's Dawn Kendrick at a watch party the Whortons held at the City of Joy Church in Akron. "I can share this with my family and friends and start giving back to the community."

The rules of 'The Wall' are simple: Get a question correct and a green ball will fall down the wall and add the value of the slot to the players’ winning total. Miss a question and an ominous red ball will fall and deduct the value from the team. Teammates have to work together to build a huge cash prize.

This is the fourth television show from SpringHill Entertainment that LeBron James founded with Maverick Carter. "The Wall" follows "Survivor's Remorse," "Cleveland Hustles," and "Becoming."

"If we can measure up to an ounce of what LeBron and his company does, we would be honored," Angel says. "It's amazing what they do and they're an inspiration to all of us. If we can pay it forward like he does, that would be great."
