Man killed in weekend shooting outside Akron bar

Police were called to the scene on North Howard Street around 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a 38-year-old man who was found outside of the Oasis Bar in the 600 block of North Howard Street early Sunday morning.

Akron police were called to gunshots fired around 2:15 a.m. outside of the bar. When police arrived, officers say they found the victim unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy. The victim's name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

Police say they suspect a fight broke out involving multiple people outside of the bar. That's when shots were fired and the victim was struck. 

One handgun and other evidence were recovered by police.
