7-year-old boy shot in Akron Thursday night

A babysitter took the boy to the hospital.

Akron Police are investigating after a child was shot at an apartment Thursday night.

Police were called to Akron Children's Hospital where the seven-year-old shooting victim had been taken in by the child's uncle, who was babysitting the child at the time of the shooting. The man's girlfriend was also with them at the hospital.

Police found the boy with gunshot wounds to both of his feet. Luckily, the injuries are not life threatening.

Police spoke with the boy's 22-year-old uncle. The man then told police that he heard a gunshot and realized that the boy had been shot in the feet.

Police say the shooting happened inside an apartment in the 2500 block of Romig Road in Akron.  Police say there were at least two other children there when the shooting happened. Police did not find any guns in the apartment or the boy's uncle's car, in which they drove to the hospital.

The shooting is under investigation as detectives try to determine the circumstances surrounding it. Police have not named any suspects.
