Popular Akron youth fishing area closed Memorial Day weekend

Area is too small for safe social distancing

AKRON, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has closed the youth fishing area at their Akron district office, 912 Portage Lakes Drive, for the holiday weekend.

ODNR officials say the area is just too small to ensure safe social distancing.

The fishing area is popular place for anglers 15-years-old and younger that come to fish with the supervision of an adult.

Normally, the fishing spot is open every weekend Memorial day through Labor Day plus through the week for groups by appointment.

The fishing area may open later in the summer as ODNR officials evaluate how they can safely reopen the area.
