Lock-down door barricades installed at Geneva schools

Following the installation, parents have mixed feelings on the doors' installation.

GENEVA, Ohio — After almost two years of fundraising, Geneva schools are finally getting lock-down door barricades.

After the Florida Parkland Shooting in February 2018, a non-profit organization called Geneva Parents for School Safety began fundraising for the door barricades.

Each Anchorman Door lock costs about $250 each. The school would have to purchase one for 251 doors in buildings across the district.

They worked to raise $63,000 dollars necessary for the school district to purchase and install lock down door barricades designed to be used by teachers when there’s an intruder in the building.

On Thursday, the final step in the installation process was completed.

While the district has reactive plans for school shootings like A.L.I.C.E  training. parents wanted to see proactive measures in the schools.

While school leaders supported their efforts, the district could not afford the purchase. Upon today's completion, parents have mixed feelings.

"In so many ways the feeling is so complicated because was have raised $50,000 over two years and that is a very unique feeling,” said Margie Netzel, the Co-Founder of Geneva parents for schools safety.

The Geneva Parents for School Safety group still has a little bit more fundraising to go for a few last-minute changes.

Netzel also says the group will continue to work on anti-bullying initiatives and mental health awareness.
