Police issue warning of black bear roaming in Ashtabula County

'If you see a bear, keep your distance and slowly move away.'

ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — Be on the lookout!

Police in the Village of Roaming Shores are warning residents of a “temporary addition” in Ashtabula County.

“Over the past several weeks the police department has received several reports of a black bear frequenting the area of Morning Star Drive and Beaver Dam Drive,” the Roaming Shores Police Department posted Wednesday on their Facebook page.

Authorities are warning all residents to use caution in the area.

“If you see a bear, keep your distance and slowly move away. Bears are typically solitary animals, but sometimes become dangerous and destructive when the obtain human food.”

Police say caution signs have been posted in the area of Beach 2 and the Division of Wildlife has been contacted.
