Attempted burglar shot and killed by homeowner in Cuyahoga Falls

The suspect is believed to have climbed in through an unlocked kitchen window.

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — A man is dead today after attempting to break into a residence in Cuyahoga Falls on Saturday, January 16. 

According to Cuyahoga Falls Police, on Saturday morning around 5:45 a.m. officers responded to a report of an armed burglary at a home on Richmond Road, with reports that the suspect had been shot by a male inside of the house.

Officers say that upon arrival, residents exited the home and informed them that the man, now identified as Demetrius Dierre Horton, was still inside with gunshot injuries. 

CFPD attempted to save the man's life until EMS arrived on scene, but Horton was pronounced dead on scene at 6:06 a.m.

Officers were able to determine that Horton had gained access to the home via an unlocked window in the home's kitchen and that he was specifically targeting this home.

Cuyahoga Falls Police Detective Bureau and Ohio Beaurau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) are investigating the situation.
