Suspect arrested after allegedly shooting and killing 31-year-old man in Canton

CANTON, Ohio — An investigation is underway after the fatal shooting killed a 31-year-old man in Canton on Tuesday night.

According to the Canton Police Department, officers responded to a "trouble call" in the 1200 block of 16th Street Northwest in Canton at around 8:18 p.m. on Tuesday. 

Upon arriving on the scene, officers found an unresponsive victim with a gunshot wound to his head laying near the back steps of a residence. 

Canton Fire Department officials transported the victim, who has been identified as Travis Charles to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he later died. 

The Canton Police Department arrested 48-year-old Shaun Cunningham from Canton on the scene. Cunningham is being charged with alleged murder and is being held at the Stark County Jail. 

Upon initial investigations, "detectives believe this incident to be domestic related in nature originating from a child custody dispute," said Canton Police Department officials in a press release.
