A Canton bus driver has been suspended following accusations he sent text messages "of a grooming nature" to a 10-year-old student.
Police confirm they are currently reviewing communications between the girl and the 54-year-old man to see if any illegal activity took place. The girl's mother reported the allegations to authorities this past Sunday, and a police report labeled the offense as "harassing communication."
The Canton City School District released the following statement:
"The district has suspended a bus driver pending an investigation into accusations that he was texting students.
"We are sending a letter home with students who are on this driver’s route asking that parents and guardians of these students check their cell phones for any texts that may be of a concern to them.
"This is an ongoing investigation and we will not be commenting further at this time."
The driver is not being named at this time with the investigation in its early stages.
