Shepler Church Ave SW in Canton to be closed most of Sunday after suspected drunk driver crashed into utility pole

The driver has been charged with OVI.

CANTON, Ohio — The Stark County Sheriff's Office says one of its main roads will be shut down for most of Sunday following a crash involving a suspected drunk driver.

Authorities say 28-year-old Sarah M. Randolph of Canton was on the 2400 block of Shepler Church Avenue Southwest when her vehicle struck a utility pole around 2:09 a.m. Her injuries were not life-threatening, but crews could not remove her from the car until electricity had been turned off.

Deputies suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash, and Randolph was arrested and charged with OVI as well as failure to control. In addition, Shepler Church Avenue Southwest will remain closed for most of the day as repairs and cleanup take place via the American Electric Power Company.

The incident remains under investigation.
