CANTON, Ohio — The Stark County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning as scammers are targeting residents in Northeast Ohio.

“The office has received complaints from potential victims who alleged they received a call from someone who identified themselves as being with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office,” the warning said. “The scammers have been spoofing the Sheriff’s Office number in an effort to perpetrate a scam.”

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office said it’s not their operating policy to call and request funds, vouchers or payments for services of any kind.

“Stark County residents should be aware of these types of scams and report any suspicious activity to your local police department and/or the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.”
