CLEVELAND — Cleveland State University announced on Monday its plans to continue its highly successful 2-for-1 Tuition Promise initiative for freshmen enrolling in the Fall 2021 semester.

The program offers incoming first-time freshmen the opportunity to receive additional financial aid from CSU to cover any remaining Spring 2022 semester tuition not covered by each student's initial financial aid package, upon successful completion of the Fall 2021 semester with a GPA of 3.0 or better.

"Everything we do is about advancing and supporting the success of our students," Cleveland State president Harlan Sands said in a press release. "High school students who will graduate next spring have been through a time like no other, and we want to ensure a pathway to success at CSU by providing the maximum amount of financial assistance that we can for their families, especially during this time of uncertainty."

The 2-for-1 Tuition Promise is designed to provide additional aid and encouragement during a time when many families are struggling amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as well as incentivize students to pursue their college dreams.

Additionally, the University launched a number of initiatives to invest in student success, including $6.1 million in direct student grants, $150 credit to the campus bookstore in Spring 2021 for undergraduate students who returned in the Fall 2020 semester and enrolled in at least 12 credits and earned a 3.0 GPA or higher and more.

According to the release, CSU's first-year retention rate is 77 percent, up to six percent over the past two years. "We are pleased to be recognized for our success, but more importantly, to demonstrate our commitment to serving the needs of our students and community," Sands concluded.
