On Monday, the event announced that it will be holding its annual races on Oct. 23-Oct 24 later this year.

In a release, the marathon said that it has been working with the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and the State of Ohio on safety protocols for the event dating back to last summer. The marathon has also partnered with University Hospitals Sports Medicine in an effort to develop guidelines "to hold an event that is safe for all who participate."

“We are thrilled to have a date for our in-person event and can’t wait to welcome our runners, volunteers and spectators back to Cleveland,” Jack Staph, executive director of the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon, said in a release. “We remain confident in our health and safety plan that has been developed with local and state health officials and University Hospitals, and we thank our runners for their patience and understanding.”

In addition to its races this fall, the Cleveland Marathon will also take place virtually on May 15-16 for those who have chosen that option. The marathon said that it is working with the city on the specific route for the event and will release more details once finalized.

Registration for this year's marathon is now open and can be found at www.clevelandmarathon.com. Races to be held at this year's event include the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, Kids’ Run and Challenge Series.
