Civil rights icon urges Clevelanders to continue to push toward Dr. Martin Luther King's dream

Legendary Cleveland Civil Rights Icon Reverend Dr. Otis Moss spoke to hundreds to honor MLK Day.

CLEVELAND — Today, millions of people across the country made time to volunteer, reflect, and appreciate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.

The Rock Hall of Fame held several events including dancers, singers, poets, and his entire 22 minute ’I Have A Dream Speech’ on repeat. That same speech was discussed by a legendary Cleveland civil rights leader who marched with Dr. King.

More than 500 people packed Temple-Tifereth Israel to hear Rev. Dr. Otis Moss Junior speak about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He says we are still working toward the post racial society that Dr. King dreamed of.

“This is our challenge. This is our calling. This is our overwhelming responsibility,” says Rev. Dr. Moss

As the crowd listened closely, Rev. Dr. Moss spoke about how each one of us has the ability to help in our own way, using our skills, privilege, or professional positions to move us toward a more fair and just society right here in Northeast Ohio.

“If we do that, to borrow from Dr. King in the history books of the future written, the historians will have to pause and say ‘There lived a great people who injected new meaning into the veins of Cleveland, the veins of America, and the world’,” says Moss.

Dr. King is one of the most quoted people in the country. We also need to add context to today because when he was alive, Dr. King was a highly controversial person. The millions of people who opposed integration and equal rights passed on their beliefs. That’s why the Reverend asked the crowd to examine their own hearts to make sure it’s in the right place.
