Cleveland City Council renames street to honor slain Salvation Army worker

Cleveland City Council voted Monday to rename a portion of Grovewood Avenue after the man murdered prior to a string of carjackings on Saturday, December 2.

Jared Plesec, 21, was found fatally shot in the head at Euclid Beach Villa apartments.

According to reports, the Salvation Army youth worker was on his way to volunteer at one of its red kettle donation sites when he was shot. His coworkers say he died in his Salvation Army uniform with a Bible in hand.

The street in front of the Salvation Army at 17625 Grovewood Avenue where Jared worked, will now serve as permanent reminder of his good works .

A date for a dedication ceremony has not yet been set.

The man accused of killing Plesec is 27-year-old William Ted Jones.

Jones is also accused of committing a series of carjackings that led to his arrest in Lakewood. He is facing charges of aggravated murder, grand theft auto and fleeing and eluding police.

A $5 million bond was set for Jones on Monday.
