CLEVELAND — The health system in Cleveland has earned more national recognition thanks to a new report by U.S. News

  • Cancer (17)

  • Neurology and neurosurgery (25)
  • Orthopedics (26)

“No children’s hospital in Northeast Ohio ranked in more specialties than Cleveland Clinic Children’s,” hospital officials noted in a press release.

University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital ranked among the nation's top 50 children's hospitals in eight specialties -- four of which landed in the nation's top 25, including:

  • Orthopedics (11)
  • Pulmonology and lung surgery (13)
  • Diabetes and endocrinology (21)
  • Cancer (25)

The U.S News rankings, which were revealed Tuesday morning, were determined on multiple factors, which include patient outcomes, available clinical resources and compliance with best practices.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” said Karen Murray, M.D., chair of Cleveland Clinic Children’s. “This is a reflection of the dedication, compassion and hard work of our caregivers to provide the best, high-quality care to our patients and their families. While COVID-19 has transformed our world and the healthcare industry, it has not and will not impact our mission to continue to provide world class care.”

Throughout the past year, Cleveland Clinic Children’s has been at the forefront of clinical innovation and research in pediatrics. Hospital highlights as detailed by hospital officials include:

  • A multidisciplinary team of specialists repaired spina bifida birth defect prior to birth, in a nearly 23-week-old fetus.
  • An innovative split-liver and heart transplant surgery gave a young patient a second chance at life, with the best outcomes in the region.
  • Magnetic spinal rods help improve outcomes and quality of life for young patients with scoliosis.
  • A groundbreaking study showed that holding off a newborn’s first bath – 12 hours or more after birth – can improve breastfeeding rates.
  • A large data-mining study showed that digital conversations provide a needed emotional outlet for teens and adults coping with epilepsy.
