Cleveland listed as one of the top 10 cities to get a job

Out of the 50 most populated cities in Glassdor's survey, Cleveland came in 9th.

Mill Valley, California — Our city makes the cut on a lot of “best of” lists.

Now we have one more to add.

Cleveland is one of the best places in the country to get a job, according to the job recruiting site Glassdoor.

Out of the 50 most populated cities they looked at, Cleveland came in 9th.

According to Shilpa Kedar at the Cleveland Foundation, which is all about making the city shine, "It is a huge selling point for us when we are trying to attract a company into the region. Also, when trying to attract a skilled workforce into the region."

Despite the unemployment rate being less than half of what it was about ten years ago, nearly 29% of Americans applied for jobs that would require them to move.

Glassdoor conducted the annual study to let people know which cities were the best places to look.

It considered how easy it is to get a job in the city, the cost of living, and how satisfied employees are working there.

Sarah Stoddard of Glassdoor says, "For the most part, it is pretty easy to find a job in Cleveland because there are 44,000 open jobs. So there are opportunities for people in a range of industries."

Our highest rating came from our cost of living, where we came in 3rd out of 50, because of our median income in relation to the average cost of a home.

“The median base salary is about $46,000 and the median home value is about $141,000. So if you put that into context and think, what does it cost to live in a city like San Jose where it’s about $1.2 million, that's actually a pretty good cost of living score,” says Stoddard.

The hottest jobs here according to the survey? Consultants, store managers and software engineers.

Kedar pointed out that, "IT is in manufacturing companies. IT is in our transportation logistics companies. IT is in our healthcare companies."

And she says, it's about time those companies got a shout out, calling Cleveland 'a best kept secret.'

Ohio, as a whole, was the state most represented in this study. The Buckeye State took 3 of the top 20 spots, with Cincinnati at number 5, and Columbus at 15.
