CLEVELAND — Crews hoisted the final beam above Quicken Loans Arena Wednesday afternoon, marking a milestone in the long-awaited $185 million project.
Construction began last February to renovate the 25-year-old building, which houses the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Monsters, as well as several big-name concert tours each year.
The city and team split the cost on the renovations and Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert pledged an extra $45 million.
Hopes that the renovations would pay off came to light in November, when the team announced it will host the 2022 NBA All-Star Game, marking another big event in downtown Cleveland. The Cleveland Indians will host the MLB All-Star game this summer.
Opposition to the project by Greater Cleveland Congregations ended in August 2017 when the group reached a deal to withdraw its petitions.
