Officers within the juvenile detention center immediately responded to the incident and were able to successfully regain control of the situation by removing the inmates from the environment. This, however, only occurred after major damage had already been done to one area of the facility.

Officials tell 3News that one officer who works in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center was injured during the incident and sought medical treatment. At this time, it is believed the officer slipped and fell while responding to the scene.

An unofficial estimate of the damage done by county officials says that it could cost as much as $20,000 to fix the vandalism done. They also tell 3News that the carpet inside of the facility was also badly damaged and may not be able to be salvaged-- the expense to replace is not included in the number mentioned above.

"The Court holds the safety of its employees and the youth within its care in the highest regard," a statement by Cuyahoga County officials reads. "The Court extends its appreciation for the detention staff who took control of the situation to ensure a safe resolution."
