Deadly night in Cleveland: 3 die in separate overnight incidents involving 2 shootings and a chase

Among those killed is a 14-year-old shooting victim.

CLEVELAND — Three people have died in separate incidents in Cleveland during the overnight hours. Below is a breakdown of what we know about each incident so far.

14-year-old boy killed in shooting

Cleveland EMS tells 3News a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed on West 89th Street and Detroit Avenue.

It happened around 11:55 p.m. according to the Cleveland Division of Police. 

The boy has been identified as Michael B. White of Cleveland, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 14-year-old victim in the courtyard with multiple gunshot wounds. 

According to preliminary investigations, a large fight broke out in front of 8811 Detroit Ave. During the fight, shots were fired by multiple people. A person of interest has not been identified.

40-year-old man killed in shooting

This incident happened overnight at 8818 Marshall Ave. at 3:16 a.m.

The Cleveland Division of Police responded to calls of a male being shot. Upon arrival, they located a 40-year-old man in the street with gunshot wounds to his head. 

Cleveland EMS officials say he was dead upon arrival.

At this time, a suspect has not been identified. 

Anyone with information about either shooting asked to contact investigators at 216-623-5464. Anonymous information can be provided by calling CrimeStoppers at 216-25-CRIME and a cash reward of up to $5000 may be available.

Driver dies in overnight chase

Cleveland EMS says a driver who was involved in a chase that started in East Cleveland crashed into a pole on East 17th Street and St. Clair in Cleveland.

The East Cleveland Police Department says the situation started shortly after 4 a.m. when officers "observed a vehicle traveling south on Noble Road recklessly without the headlights on."

As officers approached the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop, police say the driver fled.

During the pursuit, police say the vehicle came to a stop at 1035 Helmsdale "where multiple passengers bailed from the vehicle." The driver, however, allegedly continued to flee into the city of Cleveland with speeds reaching 100 mph.

We’re told the person who died is around 35 years old.
