Labor Day Weekend activities continue across Northeast Ohio despite wet weather

The rain and clouds impacted Sunday’s Geauga County Fair, Cleveland Guardians game, and Cleveland National Air Show.

CLEVELAND — Wet weather in northeast Ohio put a damper on some Labor Day weekend activities, with certain events being postponed or canceled. However, the community still turned out on Monday, carrying on holiday weekend traditions, and coming prepared to battle the rain.

Sunday’s rain and clouds threw a wrench in some weekend festivities across the area. In Geauga County, the tractor and truck pulls were canceled. The Guardians game against the Mariners featured a rain delay of more than four hours, and the Blue Angels stayed grounded at the Cleveland National Air Show.

The air show announced on their Twitter page and website that Sunday ticketholders were invited to return Monday, using their Sunday tickets or tickets stubs for general admission.

Despite a drizzle and gray skies, aviation enthusiasts didn’t stay away Monday afternoon.

“We saw the stunt plane, he was doing flips and flying the plane upside down which was crazy,” said one spectator, who came equipped with an umbrella.

“We saw the C-130 and some of the smaller planes doing acrobatics, it was fun. It’s a great show, always,” said another attendee, who also brought an umbrella.

Unfortunately, the weather conditions prevented the Blue Angels from performing on Monday.

The annual Labor Day Parade in Cleveland carried on as usual Monday, with community leaders and groups marching, waving, and handing out treats.

“My cousins are part of the Warrensville Heights Tigers band, and we’re here to support them,” said Alaisha Young, who had set up along the parade route with her family.

Young said despite the weather, she would not miss the chance to support her cousins.

“Luckily I am prepared and I brought my shower cap, so no, no rain is stopping me,” she said.

London Burnett also came out for the parade along Kinsman Road, jacket ready in case of rain.

“I’m here to watch the parade, I’m a part of the Shrine, so I’m here to get excitement,” he said.
