TOLEDO, Ohio -- A European wind developer plans to build a wind farm project in Lake Erie within the next two years.

The company will work with a public-private partnership that has been exploring the idea of putting a wind farm in the lake near Cleveland.

Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. says Norwegian-based Fred.Olsen Renewables will build six wind turbines about seven to 10 miles from the shoreline.

It will be part of a pilot project to show off the potential for wind energy in Lake Erie.

The head of the Lake Erie Energy Development group says their new partner is interested in the future of wind power throughout the Great Lakes.

The goal is to have the pilot project up and running in 2018.
