Crews battle large fire at former Cleveland women's shelter; blaze determined to be arson

The vacant Front Steps Housing and Services building on West 25th Street had been slated for demolition this week.

CLEVELAND — Crews were at the scene of a large fire at a vacant building in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood on Monday evening. 

The blaze broke out at the site former Front Steps Housing and Services building on West 25th Street. The structure had been slated for demolition this Thursday as part of the ongoing Irishtown Bend Park project.

According to the Cleveland Division of Fire, the flames first emerged around 5:30 p.m. before returning in the evening. The flames from the Monday evening fire could be seen through the roof. Authorities believe the incident to be arson, and no injuries have been reported at this time.
