UPDATE | Elderly man struck, killed by Gary Numan tour bus in downtown Cleveland

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

CLEVELAND -- An elderly man is dead after he was struck by a tour bus at the intersection of E. 9th Street and Superior Avenue Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m.

The pedestrian, only identified as a 91-year-old man at this time, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A priest was seen exiting the nearby church to offer prayers and a blessing to the victim.

Police say the tour bus was making a right turn from the southbound lane of E. 9th Street into the westbound lane of Superior Avenue. It struck the pedestrian who was walking southbound in the crosswalk from the northwest curb. There was no visible damage to the bus.

The coach company associated with the tour bus, Coast to Coast, confirmed that it was contracted by Gary Numan.

The company issued the following statement.

“We really regret the loss of life. We’ve notified our carrier, and they are investigating this incident. In our 34 years of business, this has never happened.”

Numan, a new wave artist was scheduled to perform at Cleveland’s House of Blues at 7 p.m.

The show has since been canceled.

Numan took to Twitter following the incident to express his condolences," We are utterly devastated by the fatal accident involving our tour bus in Cleveland earlier today."

The driver has not been charged at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
