Several people seriously injured after car crash on Cleveland's east side

Driver with suspended license likely caused crash.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police and rescue crews were called to a multi-car crash at E. 55 and Chester late Monday night.

Police say a 37-year-old female driver in a Nissan Altima was heading westbound on Chester Avenue at E. 55th Street. She was traveling through a green light.  At the same time, a 19-year-old female driver in a Hyundai Accent with a suspended driver's license was traveling northbound on E. 55th Street at Chester Avenue. She had two passengers in her car.  

The 19-year-old driver had a red light, but did not stop. She struck the Nissan and another vehicle, a Mazda driven by a female with a passenger.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to University Hospitals with serious injuries. 

The driver of the Hyundai was taken to UH for minor injuries and her two passengers were also transported to UH for serious injuries. 

The driver of the Mazda suffered serious injuries and was taken to UH, while her passenger was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital with unknown injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
