Storms cause Lake Erie sewage overflow at Edgewater Beach

Avoid the water.

CLEVELAND — The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District on Wednesday issued an advisory that a combined sewer overflow occurred at Edgewater Beach Tuesday night.

The overflow discharged 142,600 gallons of a combination of raw sewage and stormwater into Lake Erie, meaning beachgoers should avoid contact with the water.

Water quality conditions for Edgewater and Villa Angela beaches was deemed "poor" Wednesday due to potentially harmful bacteria that poses a risk of E.coli to swimmers.
