Suspect wanted for fatal shooting at Cleveland convenience store arrested

Charlie Wright was arrested following a fatal shooting that took place in October.

CLEVELAND — Members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) have arrested a suspect who was wanted for a fatal shooting that took place at a convenience store on Cleveland's east side last month.

According to a release, members of the Cleveland NOVFTF arrested 44-year-old Charlie Wright inside a vehicle near the intersection of Parkwood Drive and Pasadena Ave in Cleveland. Wright had been wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for aggravated murder and felonious assault.

Wright's arrest comes as the result of an incident that took place in the USA Food Mart located in the 1100 block of East 123rd Street on Oct. 26. It is believed that after getting into a verbal altercation with another customer inside the store, Wright left the store before returning with a firearm and attempting to shoot the 30-year-old customer he had been arguing with.

In addition to shooting the 30-year-old in the leg, Wright is alleged to have fatally shot a 60-year-old male worker who was stocking the coolers and shot a 40-year-old woman in the chest. The 40-year-old woman and 30-year-old male were subsequently taken to the hospital and their conditions remain unknown.

Nine customers and three employees were inside the store at the time of the incident, which occurred in broad daylight.

"This senseless act of violence resulted in the death of a hardworking, good man," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a release. "The efforts of our task force last night brought these victim’s families one step closer to the justice they deserve."
