USS Cod collides with USCGC Morro Bay while departing Cleveland for repairs in Pennsylvania

The USS Cod is headed to Erie, Pennsylvania for repairs.

CLEVELAND — The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Cleveland is investigating an collision that happened Sunday between the USS Cod and USCGC Morro Bay.

According to officials, the Cod collided with the Coast Guard's ship around 11:30 a.m. while being towed out of Cleveland.

Sunday's departure from Northeast Ohio marks the first time that the Cod has left the area in more than 50 years. The allision did not impede the ship's travel plans, however, and it is now on its way to Erie, Pennsylvania for scheduled repairs.
