Cleveland Police: Woman killed in crash after hanging out of car window, driver charged

The driver was given a field sobriety test and was arrested for aggravated vehicular homicide.

CLEVELAND — A 21-year-old woman is dead and a 22-year-old woman faces charges after a crash on Cleveland's east side.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, the two women were traveling at a high rate of speed near the area of St. Clair Ave. and East 115th Street around midnight on Sunday. There was another vehicle behind it. 

Witnesses say the passenger was hanging out of the car window. 

The car went off the road and struck a utility pole. The 21-year-old passenger was taken to University Hospitals, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was given a field sobriety test and was arrested for aggravated vehicular homicide.

The names of the victim and the driver have not yet been released. 

The incident remains under investigation.
