Bodycam video: East Cleveland police shoot and kill suspect who was allegedly using a gun to beat woman

WARNING: Viewer discretion is advised

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — WARNING: The video below may be difficult to watch; viewer discretion is advised

A male suspect is dead following an apparent domestic violence incident in East Cleveland Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, officers responded to the 13800 block of Superior Avenue around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a man beating a woman with a gun. Once authorities arrived, the suspect then allegedly pointed the weapon at the woman's head, and the officers "issued several commands for the male to drop the firearm." When the suspect did not, police shot him.

Bodycam video since released by the East Cleveland Police Department shows an officer repeatedly telling the suspect to "get on the ground" and "drop it" as the female victim attempts to crawl away. Another unidentified man can be heard yelling "That's my mama!" before shots are fired.

The video can be seen below, and 3News has edited out some of the more graphic parts at the end; again, viewer discretion is advised

There is also a video circulating on Facebook.  East Cleveland Police Captain Scott Gardner says it gave a clearer picture of the incident.

"The body camera from the officer was obviously pointed towards the male and the Facebook video was actually more of a wide angle of the entire scene so it obviously gave us a lot more insight," he says.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, later died at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. The woman is still being treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per department protocol. In addition, 3News is awaiting bodycam footage from the scene.
