2 students charged after Euclid High School 'hoax call' of active shooter

Students were given the OK to return to class around 9 a.m.

EUCLID, Ohio — Two students are in custody after a lockdown situation at Euclid High School on Monday morning was initiated after police received a "hoax call."

The duo will be charged with inducing panic and other 'related charges,' according to Euclid Police.

It began shortly before 8 a.m. when the Euclid Police Department received an anonymous phone call reporting an active shooter at the high school.

"After a thorough sweep of the campus, it was determined that there was never an active shooter at the school," Euclid police say in a press release. "There were no reported injuries during the incident. Police will continue to investigate the origin of the call."

Euclid High School tweeted an update about the situation at 8:41 a.m.

"ATTENTION PARENTS: @Euclid_HS went into a modified lockdown after the Euclid Police Department received a hoax call. EPD and school administrators acted quickly and swept the building for any possible threat. Once again, all students are safe. There is NO threat of harm!"

WKYC's Austin Love was there when the lockdown was lifted and police told students it was OK to return to class at 8:55 a.m.

A threat was also made against Central Middle School on Monday and the scene has since been cleared.

No additional details were immediately available.
