First youth at Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center tests positive for COVID-19

The diagnosis was confirmed in a memo that went out to Detention Center staff.

CLEVELAND — A youth at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). 

Two residents at the facility were quarantined, Wednesday, after exhibiting symptoms of the disease. Following testing, the results indicated that one of the two residents is positive. 

The diagnosis was confirmed in a memo that went out to Detention Center staff, Thursday.

Following the diagnosis, all detention center residents will be given ear loop masks. Additionally, travel within the facility will be limited.

As a precaution, all residents living in the same housing unit as the two tested will be quarantined to their room with the exception of trips to the restroom and shower.  

Metro Health employees are screening visitors to the facility in hopes of stopping the spread of coronavirus.
