Raising Cane's eyeing Lakewood location in Bob Evans site

Cane's wants to take over Bob Evans.

LAKEWOOD -- Raising Cane's is continuing its quest to infiltrate Northeast Ohio.

The popular fast food chain has already opened locations in Canton and Strongsville and, according to Lakewood councilman Tristan Rader, Raising Cane's could be coming to Lakewood.

According to a Facebook post on Rader's page, Raising Cane's is eyeing the Bob Evans location on Detroit Avenue across from the Winking Lizard. Rader later confirmed the information to WKYC.

LRC Realty, which also owns Lakewood Plaza, purchased the site and entered a contract with Raising Cane's to take over the Bob Evan's location. The proposal calls for the Bob Evans building to be demolished and replaced with a new building.

According to documents submitted to the city by the project's pre-development manager, the new restaurant would also have a patio.

Rader says the next step is approval from the city Planning Commission and Architectural Board of Review. The application was submitted to the Planning Commission last Tuesday.

Rader said in his Facebook post that he plans to seek legislation that will restrict construction of new drive-thru sites. He said he feels drive-thrus and fast-food chains don't fit the city of Lakewood's vision.
