Students, educators from Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS honored in Northeast Ohio

Ahead of the 1-year anniversary of the school shooting in Parkland, several were honored for their inspirational efforts.

As the one-year anniversary of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida approaches, students and educators of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High were presented with an award in Northeast Ohio on Thursday.

Presented by Values-in-Action, the Rescuer of Humanity award recognizes individuals who have chosen to use their leadership to positively change the course of humanity.

The presentation was apart of Values-in-Action annual dinner celebrates and recognizes companies and individuals who shape community culture and inspire others to do the same.

Since the shooting, students and teachers have inspired others across the nation to treat others with kindness, and to not be bystanders.

The award was presented by Andy Fetchik, principal at Chardon High School at the time of Chardon's school shooting in 2012.

The Parkland shooting took the lives 17 young people and wounded 17 others on Valentine’s Day 2018.
