SWAT standoff ends in Richmond Heights; separate fire displaces multiple people

The two incidents were not related.

Officials say a SWAT standoff in Richmond Heights is over after a male suspect was arrested without incident on Friday afternoon.

According to Richmond Heights Police Chief Gene Rowe, the man threatened a lady in the Loganberry Ridge Apartments leasing office with a butcher knife before running into his apartment and locking himself in. Officers attempted to make contact with the man, who is known to have psychological problems, but were not able to talk to him or get him to open the door.

Both the SPAN Tactical Unit and the SWAT team were called in to make a forced entry. The man did not fight or resist and no one was hurt. He was taken to Richmond-University Heights Hospital for an evaluation.

In addition to the standoff, a fire also broke out at the same apartment complex, and multiple people are now unable to return to their homes. The two incidents were not related.
