An off-duty University Hospitals police officer was shot Monday morning while withdrawing money from a bank, East Cleveland police confirm.
The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. at the U.S. Bank on Forest Hill Blvd. As the officer was making the withdrawal, officials say an unknown male suspect approached with a gun. The officer was shot, and his badge, wallet, and off-duty weapon were stolen.
The officer suffered a broken pelvis / femur.
Authorities say they are in the process of talking to witnesses and pulling video from the area.
