911 AUDIO | Geauga County dispatchers assist woman in labor over phone prior to arrival of paramedics to helpl deliver baby

Mom and baby were taken to TriPoint Medical Center and are doing well!

GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio — An amazing job by a team of dispatchers in Geauga County was captured on audio as they assisted a woman in giving birth to a baby boy over the phone.

Just after 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Geauga County dispatchers received a call from a woman saying that her 25-year-old daughter was in active labor as they were on their way to the hospital.

The duo were calling from Thompson Township and it became apparent that the baby was not going to wait until they arrived at TriPoint Medical Center in Painesville.

In the 911 audio released by the Geauga County Sheriff's Office, the dispatcher on the line began giving specific instructions to assist the women. The other dispatchers in the room assisted 'in just as important supporting roles,' according to the department's post on Facebook.

The woman in labor was “crowning” upon the arrival of the first EMS Unit on scene. Just moments later, her baby was delivered. She and her new son were taken to TriPoint and are both doing well.

Thompson Fire & Rescue Asst. Chief Dorothy Battles told Geauga County Sheriff's officials that the call “couldn’t have gone any better” and wished to express her extreme appreciation and admiration to dispatchers for their performance on the call.
