CLARIDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A juvenile is recovering after he became stuck in a swamp overnight Friday.

According to the Chardon Fire Department, crews responded to a report of a lost person around 5:25 a.m. in the wooded swamp area north of Lake Aquilla.

The boy reportedly entered the woods around 2:30 a.m. and became disoriented and stuck in the thick vegetation.

The Chardon Fire Department, Geauga County Sheriff's Office and Windsor Fire Department all responded with an ambulance, utility vehicles, all-terrain vehicles and a drone.

Crews couldn't locate the boy due to the thickness of the vegetation, but they were able to make contact with him from a nearby home.

The boy managed to exit the wooded swamp on his own with assistance from rescue crews around 6:55 a.m. He was taken to a local hospital with mild hypothermia, cuts and scrapes.

Officials did not specify the boy's age.
