2 taken to hospital after house fire in Geauga County

THOMPSON, Ohio — Two individuals were taken to the hospital following a fire at a mobile home in Geauga County.

Thompson Fire Department officials say the fire broke out on Saturday morning at around 7:40 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, fire crews discovered heavy smoke coming from the home. 

"One victim had exited the residence through a bedroom window under their own power and the wheelchair bound resident was rescued by neighbors just prior to crew arrival," said Thompson Fire Department officials in a Facebook post.

Both adults were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and injuries. A dog and cat was also rescued by fire crews from the home. 

The Thompson Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Montville, Hambden, Trumbull, Leroy, Madison, Middlefield and Chardon Fire Departments.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Geauga County Fire Investigation Unit.
