Hambden firefighter's car struck by suspected drunk driver

The firefighter suffered minor injuries, while the suspect was arrested.

The Hambden Fire Department in Geauga County says one of its members was struck by a suspected drunk driver on his was to work Friday night.

The firefighter was apparently driving his own vehicle when he was rear-ended at a red light, forcing the car into the intersection. While he only suffered minor injuries, the department wrote that the situation, "could have easily ended in tragedy."

This is the second such incident to occur in Geauga County this week: A Sheriff's deputy was struck by another drunk driver late New Year's Day.

"Please use this as a reminder to think before you choose to get behind the wheel impaired," the fire department wrote. "You are not only putting yourself at risk, but you are putting everybody else on the road at risk as well."
