Man shot outside of Chardon Tavern and Grill, suspect in custody

The 35-year-old victim was taken by medical helicopter to University Hospitals in Cleveland. There is no word on his condition.

CHARDON, Ohio — Police are investigating a shooting that took place in the early morning hours Saturday in the parking lot of the Chardon Tavern and Grill. 

When officers arrived on the scene shortly before 2:00 a.m., they found a 35-year-old man had been shot several times. He was taken first to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, then transferred by medical helicopter to University Hospitals in Cleveland. There is no word on his condition. 

The alleged suspect fled the scene of the shooting in a vehicle, and was apprehended by law enforcement officers a short distance from the scene shortly after the shooting occurred. 

The suspect is in custody and is being held at the Geauga County Jail and charges are pending. Arraignment is likely to take place on Monday.

The Chardon Police Department received assistance from members of the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation Crime Scene Unit.
