Standoff ends after 12 hours in Geauga County: Man in custody after barricading himself in house, leading deputies on chase

The man told deputies he had a gun, then locked himself inside his home.

GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio — A standoff that started around 6 p.m. Sunday has ended after 12 hours.

Authorities said the suspect was taken into custody shortly after 6 a.m. Monday.

The Geauga County Sheriff said the situation began when the 66-year-old man was accused of damaging a neighbor's vehicle. 

When deputies responded to the scene in the 10500 block of Chardon Road, the suspect allegedly threatened authorities -- saying he had a gun -- and barricaded himself in his home.

Authorities say the suspect fled the house early Monday morning, leading deputies on a chase that concluded on Mulberry Road in Munson Township.

He was arrested and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Our cameras were there as the suspect was handcuffed and wheeled away from the scene on a stretcher.

His name has not yet been released.
